Real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2008 grew 6.3 percent compared to the same period last year, says the Statistical Office. At the same time, GDP growth for the first half of the year is 7.3 percent up on the same period in 2007. GDP growth in 2008: 6.3 percent The biggest rate of growth in the second quarter was enjoyed by the traffic sector (17.6 percent), financial brokerage (16 percent), construction (7.9 percent), retail (5.8 percent), processing (4.4 percent), the hospitality industry (4.3 percent), while the electrical industry fell 3.6 percent. The greatest contribution to GDP growth of 6.2 percent in the second quarter of 2008 was made by the traffic sector (2.2 percent), financial brokerage (1 percent), retail (0.7 percent) and processing (0.6 percent), says a statement from the Statistical Office. GDP has risen EUR 33.3mn to EUR 404.3mn since the same period last year.
