After his split with Vojislav Seselj, Tomislav Nikolic had meetings with the U.S. and the British ambassadors in Belgrade, Politika writes. The Belgrade daily quotes U.S. embassy press officer Ryan Harris who said that Ambassador Cameron Munter met with Nikolic to discuss “support of the Serb Progressive Party for the European integrations”. “Nikolic met with Western ambassadors” British Ambassador Stephen Wordsworth did not wish to comment the reports that he, too, met with the former Serb Radical Party deputy president. However, that this political figure is no longer unacceptable was hinted at some ten days ago, when Wordsworth opened the International Summer School in Belgrade. On that occasion, Politika says, the diplomat estimated that positive effects of the European integration had led to the pro-European evolution of the Socialist Party, which, in his words, Europe supported. “Europe’s message was clear – if your change is honest, we will accept it and really we have accepted it. Now, perhaps, we will see the beginning of a similar process even in the Radical Party,” Wordsworth said, and added that some people found courage and made it clear they do not agree with Seselj’s policy. Politika also reminds that Nikolic, until the rift with Seselj, only ever met with Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Konuzin. Nikolic told a Belgrade television outlet last night that he had met Munter once during a reception, that they discussed Kosovo, and that the U.S. diplomat said there was “no alternative to Kosovo’s independence”.
