Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski met in New York with UN envoy in the name crisis, Matthew Nimetz. According to Macedonia's televisions station A1, Nimetz did not give any new proposals for settling the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece, but told the Macedonian president that Greece believes that his last suggestions "work more towards the advantage of Macedonia than Greece". Mediator in name dispute "not discouraged" After yesterday’s meeting with Crvenkovski on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Nimetz said he will talk to the Skopje and Athens negotiators again in about ten days. The U.S. diplomat also said that he does not see any difference in the stances of the Macedonian president and government. Nimetz also met with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis in New York, and said afterwards that he is not discouraged with the negotiations or with Athens’ willingness to find a solution. “This is not a matter of ethnic or historical identity, but a problem with the name of a country and the prefix of that name. In the negotiation process we are not dealing with national or personal identity,” Nimetz said. Bakoyannis reiterated the Greek stance that Macedonia should have "one name for all occasions and needs". “The negotiations will continue with details being discussed by the negotiations during next week or the next two weeks. The Greek side had the possibility to state its own constructive position and wishes to find a joint solution for the name which will be acceptable for Skopje,” she said.
