The upcoming meetings in New York should clarify the EULEX mission's presence in Kosovo, says Javier Solana. The EU high representative made the comments after meeting with President Boris Tadic, Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, stating: “The European mission has as its aim the establishment of the rule of law, which I believe is important for the whole region.” Solana: NY meetings to clarify EULEX role “And I sincerely hope,” he added, “that next week, at meetings in New York, at the UN, and at subsequent meetings, we’ll be in a position to find a way for that situation to turn out favorably.” Asked whether the condition would be set for Belgrade to somehow recognize Kosovo’s independence once Serbia was ready for EU membership, Solana replied that “no such condition exists.” He stressed that “there are no new conditions for Serbia’s further integration.” Javier Solana (FoNet, archive)
