Former Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic has not ruled out the possibility of establishing his own party, a report says. "Unless the DS and LDP in the next couple of months return to the basic political principles for which they were established and because of which they exist, and that is an accelerated modernization of Serbia, then as the last solution, there is the founding of a new party," Zivkovic told the daily Vecernje Novosti. Former PM mulls new party The former high ranking Democratic Party (DS) official, who in 2003 briefly succeeded slain Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, says that setting up a new political party at any price is not his goal, since he "could have done that a long time ago", but that the democratic political space in the country is currently "contaminated", and that Serbia has no European future. "There is no democratic and European future in a coalition with the Socialists," Zivkovic blasted the now once again ruling party, founded and led by Slobodan Milosevic. "A government that has SPS cannot secure better living, higher standard for citizens, Serbia's road toward the EU," the former premier said. He added that his announcement of a new democratic political movement should be taken as a warning by the DS, and the LDP, which was formed as a DS offshoot. Asked who might be expected to join his party, Zivkovic said those could be all who are today "grumbling, abstaining from voting, and yet having good things in mind for Serbia". Zivkovic also clarified his position inside the DS, saying that he is still formally a member, but that his inactivity comes as a consequence of the party's top brass decision.
