Disagreement over control of the Urbanism Secretariat is hampering a deal between the LDP and the DS and SPS in Belgrade. According to daily Vecernje Novosti, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) wants “their man“ at the helm of this department, even though they earlier announced that none of their members would take part in the city authorities. Belgrade: LDP demands blocking deal The Urbanism Secretariat is a key institution that controls building in Belgrade, as only it can issue permits for construction of facilities greater that 800 sqm. The Democratic Party (DS) does not want to give the department to the LDP, but has proposed for the LDP to appoint the remaining senior personnel within the Secretariat to control its work. Biljana Srbljanovic, who was the LDP’s candidate for mayor, believes that the DS has made too many concessions to the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), and that the LDP will only support a DS-SPS government on condition that the institutions are headed by non-party members. She told the daily that the LDP’s conditions for support of the DS in Belgrade were “a beginning of “depoliticization and professionalism“ of public services. Srbljanovic said that the most important thing was for the new Belgrade government not to fall into the hands of the Serb Radical Party (SRS), and that, should an agreement be reached, no-one from the LDP, not even her, would sit “in any city chair“. Daily Politika also writes that the LDP wants the DS to give them control of both the Urbanism Secretariat and the Secretariat for Children's and Social Welfare. Biljana Srbljanovic (FoNet, archive)
