B92 has learned that the date for the Belgrade assembly to meet has not been set. Although the Democratic Party (DS) and its coalition have in principle agreed on forming the local authorities in the capital with the SPS and the group of parties they lead, the results of the DS talks with the Liberal-Democrats (LDP) are still uncertain. Still no deal in Belgrade The two parties, according to our sources, are not close to reaching a deal guaranteeing LDP's minority support. The representatives from the DS and LDP are set to meet today. Daily Blic writes today that the Belgrade assembly meeting at which a mayor will be named will “almost certainly” be held on Monday. According to the newspaper, the only candidate for Belgrade mayor is Democratic Party city board president Dragan Djilas, while his deputy is expected to be Milan Krkobabic of the Associated Pensioners Party (PUPS). The report adds that of the 13 city council seats, the SPS will have four, G17 plus two, and DS will have the remaining seats. Daily Vecernje Novosti stated that the city assembly meeting will be held on Monday, August 18. According to this report, it is already known who will gain control of particular public companies in the capital. The Socialists (SPS) are expected to control the Power Plants, public transportation (GSP), Sava Center, the Belgrade Arena and funereal services. G17 plus will have Belgrade Roads and the city's green markets. The rest of the city companies will be led by DS. Vecernje Novosti states that there could be problems with naming a speaker for the city assembly. The DS and SPS want to give the position to the SPS, and it is expected that current speaker Branislav Belic will be replaced. However, when Belic was selected, the Liberal Democratic Party voted for him under the condition that he would be the final solution for the position.
