Recognition of EULEX does not imply the tacit acceptance of Kosovo independence, says a leading analyst. Director of the Balkan Democracy Fund Ivan Vejvoda told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti that by recognizing the EU mission, "Serbia will not be recognizing Kosovo at the same time.“ "EULEX recognition doesn't mean Kosovo recognition" “As our officials, from president down say—this is out of the question. In a complex situation, with 43 recognitions and a probable increase of this number, it is important for Serbia to declare that it will not recognize Kosovo, while finding a way not to impede its sorely-needed economic and social progress," said Vejvoda. He welcomed the decision by Serbian ministers to seek a compromise through negotiations on the reshaping of the civilian presence in Kosovo with UNMIK, adding that a way "must be found whereby the United Nations will stay in Kosovo under Resolution 1244, as well as a way to work with EULEX."
