A DS spokeswoman says SRS is trying to radicalize the political situation in Serbia “after losing every election.” “What has been happening over the last days is an effort for the Radicals (SRS) to radicalize the political situation in Serbia and try to create an atmosphere of persecution and lynching against political opponents and the media,” Jelena Trivan told Tanjug news agency. DS: SRS attempting to radicalize situation “Of course, this was motivated not by a lawful political fight or ideology, but an attempt of the Radicals to find their place on the political scene after losing all the elections,” according to this spokeswoman. Trivan also said that “the SRS has based its program since it was founded on the political scene on radicalization and that is simply the atmosphere in which it functions best. It is obvious that they will stop at nothing, including a blockade of the institutions, or calls to collapse the institutional system in Serbia.” “However, that cannot turn into a political habit which is tolerated, in the same way in which crimes are sanctioned in Serbia. The constitution and law are obligatory for all citizens, and have to be the same for all political party representatives,” Trivan said. The DS representative said she is not surprised by the fact that “the public has called for the SRS to take responsibility since their threats and their attacks – both physical and verbal – have become very serious and represent a serious danger for peace and stability in Serbia.” She also mentioned the position of the media, “which in such an atmosphere cannot report freely”. “The DS will do everything for the situation to stabilize, to protect journalists, freedom of speech and political differences.” “The DS will do everything as a party participating in the government to respect the law and constitution to the fullest extent and to enable the functionality of all institutions of the system,” Trivan concluded.
