The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution will ask the U.S. for the extradition of war crimes suspect Peter Egner. Egner, a U.S. national from the former Yugoslavia, is suspected of committing war crimes in Belgrade during the Second World War. Prosecution spokesman Vekaric told daily Danas that representatives from his office would be speaking with U.S. officials about the “Egner case“. Director of the Belgrade Historical Archive Branka Prpa said that her institution had information on Egner. “So far we’ve found his name in a register of Belgrade citizens, but there are still another 300,000 documents from the Gestapo and Nedic’s secret police that need to be looked at,“ Prpa said. The U.S. embassy in Belgrade’s press secretary Ryan Harris said that Ambassador Cameron Munter supported Serbia’s plans to try Egner in Serbia, where, she said, he had committed the crimes. Israeli embassy representative Yair Fromer told Danas that “Israel is not involved in the Peter Egner case in the U.S.“
