The driver of a Polish bus that crashed last week killing six has been remanded in custody for one month. The decision was made in Indjija by Investigative Judge Jelica Zivkovic. Polish bus driver in custody Zivkovic told Beta news agency today that that the driver, Andrzej Kempa, was detained on Saturday based on the request by Indjija’s Municipal Prosecution Office. She said that no extradition demands from Poland were made so far. "Andzej Kempa is suspected of causing a serious act against public transport safety. He has been interviewed and the next step will be bringing out the evidence,” the judge said, declining to comment on the details of the investigation. Zivkovic said that the proceedings against the bus driver are being conducted at the Municipal Court in Indjija, because of the location of the act he is suspected of. "We have not yet received any requests for extradition to Poland,” Zivkovic also confirmed, and added that due to this, she could not comment on the possibility that the case would continue before Polish courts. The fatal traffic accident that happened on July 11 on the Belgrade – Novi Sad highway cost six Polish nationals their lives, while many were injured. Five people died instantly, and one child died on the way to hospital. Most of the passengers on the double decker bus were miners and members of their families returning from a vacation in Bulgaria. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, while visiting the injured in a Novi Sad hospital earlier, said that it was too early to talk about the cause of the accident, but that it was “obvious” that human error, namely, a misjudgment by the bus driver, was involved.
