LDP to support DS, SPS cabinet

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) main board has decided to support the forming of a government by the Democratic Party (DS) and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). This was confirmed on Saturday by LDP Presidency member Zoran Ostojic. LDP to support DS, SPS cabinet The LDP will support such a government for the sake of fostering closer ties between Serbia and the European Union through ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, replacing Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and preventing Serbian Radical Party (SRS) from assuming power, he said. The LDP will, however, be the opposition to the DS and SPS-led coalitions and will oppose any future government's idea that would jeopardize Serbia's European perspective in any way, he said. The LDP protests in advance against any personnel decisions the two parties might take that would rehabilitate the SPS policy which had devastated the country, he added. The five-party pre-election coalition gathered around the DS has yesterday started cabinet negotiations with the Socialists (SPS), and their two junior partners, PUPS and JS.
