Priština paper on UNMIK reconfiguration

UNMIK's new chief Lamberto Zannier is yet to receive reconfiguration instructions from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, an Albanian language newspaper reports. "Instructions are not yet here. The new UNMIK chief has only arrived in Kosovo and he will soon get his instructions," the daily Express quoted UNMIK spokesman Alexander Ivanko. Pristina paper on UNMIK reconfiguration "Without these instructions, the process of UNMIK's reconfiguration cannot begin," he added. Even so, the paper says, this process will start next week as the office of UNMIK's deputy is shut down, along with a reduction of staff, and closing down of several regional administrators' offices. Former UN mission to Kosovo chief Joachim Ruecker, who left the province on Saturday, was also quoted as saying that the reconfiguration should start next week. "You have all heard what the reconfigured UNMIK will look like. It will be smaller, with different responsibilities. It will not be removed completely, because the UN still have responsibilities in Kosovo," the German diplomat told reporters at the Pristina airport yesterday.
