Commenting on observations that “Russians are buying a lot” in Montenegro, Russia’s Ambassador to Podgorica says “they’re only buying what Montenegrins sell.” Yakov Gerasimov told Podgorica daily Republika that “Russian investment has a positive impact on foreign investors by encouraging them to fund Montenegrin development projects.” "Russians buy what Montenegrins sell" "I am sure that all the problems can and must be solved together, and that mutually acceptable solutions must be found,” Gerasimov said. The ambassador added that Moscow respected Montenegro’s wish to join the EU. "That is the choice of an independent state and Russia respects it,” he said. Gerasimov, however, said that Moscow’s position on NATO expansion was negative, but that Montenegro’s intention to join the Alliance could not spoil traditionally friendly relations between the two countries. The Russian ambassador said that visas for Montenegrin citizens would be scrapped as soon as possible. Russians can stay in Montenegro up to 30 days without a visa.
