Today marks the seventh anniversary of the murder of daily Vecernje Novosti journalist Milan Pantic. The perpetrators of the crime remain unknown to this day. Anniversary of journalist's murder Pantic’s widow Zivka says that seven years after her husband’s murder, her hopes of the murderer and those behind the killing being brought to justice are fading. She says that there has not been no contact with the police and other investigative organs for two years. "New facts and information should have shown up after seven years, but I’m not hopeful. Everything that could have been done has been done. About two thousand people have been questioned, and nothing has come of it,” said Pantic. The Serbian Association of Journalists and the Novi Put broadcasting company from Jagodina, together with journalists from Jagodina and Belgrade will block the main street in central Jagodina between 12.45 and 13.00 today in a sign of protest. Journalist will sit on the main street in the shape of a number “7” and will carry a sheet bearing the message, “Find the murderers of journalists.” A memorial service will be held at Jagodina cemetery, while at the National Library, the seventh annual Milan Pantic Award for Bravery in Journalism will be handed out. This year’s winners are Dragana Zecevic, a Novosti journalist from Kursumlija, and Darko Dimitrijevic of Radio Gorazdevac. Milan Pantic was murdered early on the morning of June 11, 2001, in front of his home. He was killed with several blows to the head with a blunt object. His name has featured for some time on a memorial in Washington to journalists from all over the world killed in the line of duty. Several months prior to the murder, Pantic published a series of articles focusing on corruption in the Pomoravlje district.

Pantić’s widow Živka says that seven years after her husband’s murder, her hopes of the murderer and those behind the killing being brought to justice are fading. She says that there has not been no contact with the police and other investigative organs for two years.
