Democratic Party (DS) official and President of Vojvodina Executive Council Bojan Pajtic says he is a candidate for first minister in Vojvodina, not Serbia. Pajtic pointed out that at the recent polls he had been a candidate for the president of the Vojvodina Executive Council. Democrat denies he's PM candidate He added that the issue of who might be the future prime minister had not been discussed at DS level, and that party leader and President Boris Tadic had not even broached the subject. "I think that it is important that the prime minister should be someone who can help Serbia become a member of the EU as soon as possible,” Pajtic said in an interview with Belgrade daily Novosti. He said that he thought that the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) could only join the provincial government if it served a higher cause. "That higher cause means constituting a new government at republic level, and at the level of local self governments wherever possible, including Belgrade,” said Pajtic. The DS vice-president said that the elections had shown that the citizens of Serbia and Vojvodina sought European integration. "That is also a warning to all those parties who are talking about a new government. Serbian citizens want a government whose priority is European integration, protecting the country’s territorial integrity, and policies aimed at improving the standard of living, tackling corruption, and leading Serbia into the EU,” Pajtic said.
