Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik has reiterated that Vojvodina is not Kosovo, and that there will be no new changes to borders in the Balkans. “Vojvodina’s future within Serbia has never been questioned by anyone from the European side, and there has never been any mention of its secession,“ Plassnik said in an interview published today in Novi Sad daily Dnevnik, ahead of her visit tomorrow to Serbia. Austrian FM: Vojvodina no Kosovo “We have always been clear insomuch as that there could be no changes of border, but Kosovo is a special case, the result of a long story,“ said Plassnik. The minister said that Austria supported regional development because it was the quickest way to achieve European standards, and it also supported Serbia's European path, in both words and deeds. “Serbia is obliged to achieve full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, and only then will the transitional agreement come into effect. That cooperation is not only a condition for Serbia’s accession to the EU, but also a way of achieving reconciliation in the region and the whole of Europe,“ she explained. “As far as the EU mission to Kosovo is concerned, it will begin its work slowly, step by step. It is still not exactly clear when the process of transferring powers from UNMIK to EULEX will be complete,“ Plassnik underlined.
