Trial of former public prosecutor adjourned

The trial of ex-Deputy Public Prosecutor Milorad Cvijović on charges of abuse of powers has been adjourned till September because of the judge’s ill health.

The trial of ex-Deputy Public Prosecutor Milorad Cvijovic on charges of abuse of powers has been adjourned till September because of the judge’s ill health. Cvijovic was also unable to attend today’s hearing at the Second District Court because of illness. Trial of former public prosecutor adjourned According to the indictment, he is accused of helping former C Market Managing Director Slobodan Radulovic buy shares in the company at a very cheap price. The former prosecutor then proceeded to withdraw the case from the Republic Prosecution’s records, and closed it without he knowledge of the acting prosecutor, in order to remove any competition to Radulovic, and help him buy up C Market shares at a bargain price via his Primer C company. He was arrested on October 7, 2006, as part of an investigation launched by the special prosecutor against a group known as the “Bankruptcy Mafia.“ The case was transferred to the Second District Court after it was established that the District Court’s Special Chamber did not have jurisdiction for the case. During the investigation, it was confirmed that Cvijovic’s actions had not constituted organized crime, and was thus passed to the regular courts, while the case of the “Bankruptcy Mafia“ remained at the Special Chamber. Radulovic, who is on the run, is being tried at the District Court’s Organized Crime Chamber in absentia, as one of the “Bankruptcy Mafia's“ ringleaders.
