Senior SRS official Zoran Krasic says that Vojislav Seselj’s statement about Zvezdan Jovanovic will not compromise negotiations on forming a new government. During his trial last week at the Hague, the Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader stated that Jovanovic, convicted of the murder of the late prime minister, Zoran Djindjic, deserved the same glory that “Gavrilo Princip received in Serbian history,” although adding that he did not believe Jovanovic to be the assassin. SRS: Seselj statement does no harm "I do not think that that statement can compromise the negotiations for one simple reason: Seselj has been incarcerated for six years, he has been defending himself using his own style, which he has every right to do,” Krasic, a member of the SRS leader’s defense team, told a press conference. He said that he could not see why anybody would object to Seselj’s statement, given that he was representing himself. "He definitely had his reasons for saying it, especially given that Carla Del Ponte said something similar”, Krasic said, adding that even though Seselj was the SRS’s leader, in court he was “fighting his case and looking after his own interests”. "Why didn’t those who got so upset by Seselj’s statement, react to Carla Del Ponte’s book?” Krasic wondered. "As far as my own opinion of Djindjic is concerned—Seselj has shown a great deal of humanity”, Krasic said.
