Democratic Party (DS) Vice-President Bojan Pajtic says the “For a European Vojvodina“ list’s victory at the provincial elections shows the citizens seek EU integration. According to unofficial results, For a European Vojvodina won 41 seats in the second round of the provincial vote, the Serb Radical Party Party (SRS) five, various citizens’ groups five, the Hungarian coalition four, and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) two. This victory is a clear indicator that the majority of citizens seeks European integration for our country, and that SRS and DSS voters have started voting for Serbia’s European future too,“ Pajtic told Beta. The DS vice-president added that the DS and its coalition partners, the LSV and the Hungarian coalition, had a two-thirds majority in the Vojvodina Assembly, and would form a governing majority in the province on that basis. He said that besides these parties, the assembly majority would be supplemented by two citizens’ groups and LDP MP from Novi Becej Milivoj Vrebalov, with whom the DS reached a pre-election agreement on mutual support. “These elections should be an indicator to all political parties as to what direction the future government should take, and to how two-thirds of our country’s citizens are thinking,“ said Pajtic, adding that he expected that parties in Serbia would “read the message from Vojvodina’s citizens.“ According to the DS’s preliminary results, collated from the results of the first round, the For a European Vojvodina list will have an absolute majority in the new provincial assembly with 64 out of 120 seats. The League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV), the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Socialist Party of Serbia won one seat each.

“I thank the citizens for the confidence they’ve shown. This victory is a clear indicator that the majority of citizens seeks European integration for our country, and that SRS and DSS voters have started voting for Serbia’s European future too,“ Pajtić told Beta.
