Serbia's Jelena Jakovic beat Alize Cornet of France 2-0 (6-2. 6-2) to defend her Italian Open title. The straight-set victory is Jankovic's sixth career WTA title and her first this year. Jankovic defends Rome title Cornet had no answer for Jankovic's relentlessly consistent groundstrokes as the errors piled up, reducing her to tears at the changeover when she was trailing 1-4 in the second. Towards the end of the match, Jankovic, world's number four, had work on her right shoulder. "I love you. I love Rome. I'm happy to win the title again. I'm simply very, very happy," Jankovic addressed the Rome audience in Italian as she accepted her trophy today.
