DSS leader Vojislav Kostunica says that only 126 MPs can form a majority that represents the will of the citizens. Kostunica warned that anything else meant changing the will of the people, usurping power, and suspending democratic order. DSS leader hits back at "electoral will" claims “I assume Boris Tadic knows that his coalition of five parties with 102 seats doesn’t hold a majority in the Serbian parliament,” he observed. The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader reiterated that “according to the principle tenets of democracy, and according to the Serbian Constitution, only 126 MPs can form a legitimate majority that expresses the will of the citizens.” Kostunica pointed out that “so far, nobody other than Boris Tadic has stated that a vote for his coalition at the elections counts for more than a vote given to other political parties.” “That nonsense is most indicative of the person who said it, and who even refers to democracy when doing so,” the DSS leader surmised. “The DSS-New Serbia (NS) will respect the will the citizens expressed at the elections that can only be represented by 126 MPs in the national parliament,” Kostunica underlined, adding that “anything else would mean not only changing the will of the people, but also usurping power and suspending democratic order in the worst possible manner.” Meanwhile, DSS spokesman Andreja Mladenovic has announced coalition intensive talks between the DSS-NS, Radicals and Socialists, so that "the earliest possible coalition agreement may be signed enabling the formation of a new government." "In the next few days, intensive talks will be held for the earliest possible signing of a coalition agreement that would enable the formation of a new national government and the formation of local authorities in some 140 municipalities throughout Serbia," Mladenovic told Tanjug. The DSS spokesman said that the "coalition of the DSS-NS, Radicals and Socialists, together with the Bosniak list in parliament at republic level would have a stable majority of 130 MPs, and would enable the new government to efficiently implement its manifesto objectives and lead the country forward." He stressed that "it’s foolish and erroneous to claim that 130 MPs do not constitute a majority, and that they do not express the will of the citizens of Serbia." "To say that 102 MPs (list for "European Serbia") is a majority, and 130 a minority is a marketing ploy," Mladenovic surmised. Vojislav Kostunica (Tanjug, archive)
