LDP leader Cedomir Jovanovic says that his party will do everything to help the DS reach an agreement with the SPS. He said that otherwise, a parallel government would be formed. LDP: Understanding for DS-SPS government “If Serbia gets an anti-European government, we’ll be obliged to form a parallel European government to put constant pressure on the government through its parliamentary officials and spread its influence throughout the community, which will sooner or later lead to new elections, in which support will be given to the clear, European policies that we need,” the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader said. Jovanovic told Pink television that he was convinced that other parties would have understanding for these policies, stressing that it would not mean any kind of clashes or national demonstrations, though he added that Serbia must ”use methods that exist in contemporary democracies.” He said that the LDP could not influence the decision of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), but because of the situation the country found itself in, the LDP would do everything to enable an agreement between the Democratic Party (DS) and the SPS. An agreement with the Socialists would send the country towards European policies and away from anti-European ones “with which they are currently negotiating,” the LDP leader stressed. He said that the LDP would help the DS stop the Serb Radical Party (SRS) from taking power, and ensure that Vojislav Kostunica would not be prime minister again, adding that this was the will expressed by the citizens at the elections. Jovanovic said that the parliamentary majority took decisions, and that it was pointless to hold elections in Serbia if no one was ready to respect the will of the electorate. “We are not trying to deny anyone the right to take decisions in parliament via support they’ve received, or to form their own government. But, no one can deprive us of the right to publicly uphold the interests of the citizens who voted for us,” the LDP leader underlined. Cedomir Jovanovic and Biljana Srbljanovic (FoNet archive)
