United Serbia (JS) leader Dragan Markovic says that his party will negotiate with the DS if talks with the SRS and DSS fall through. He said that talks between the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS)-Associated Pensioners’ Party (PUPS)-JS coalition, the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) had only just begun, and that only the principles of a potential government coalition had been agreed upon. JS leader opens possibility of talks with DS “The talks thus far are just the beginning. This does not mean anything, these are just six principles that all thee political parties except Cedomir Jovanovic and Riza Halimi’s agree on,” Markovic said. He added that talks would continue today with the SRS and the DSS, but did not give a time frame for when the talks could potentially conclude. Asked whether he would be meeting with the Democratic Party (DS), Markovic said that he would, “if the negotiations with the SRS and DSS fall through.” The JS leader said that he was against annulling the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU. Markovic made the comments in a response to an earlier statement from New Serbia leader Velimir Ilic that he was only against annulling the agreement at the first session of the new parliament. “I am against annulling the SAA, and I am also for Kosovo remaining an integral part of Serbia, because that is written in Resolution 1244. In the SAA, there is article 135 which speaks of respecting Resolution 1244, and that’s end of story,” Markovic said. Ilic said earlier that he was confident that the next government would be formed with the SPS and SRS, even if no agreement had yet been reached. Speaking to Blic, Ilic said that his optimism was founded on the talks so far with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS)-Associated Pensioners’ Party (PUPS)-United Serbia (JS) coalition. “That coalition is in sight. I think everything is acceptable to everyone, and the good will is there to reach an agreement,” he said. Asked what Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica could offer the SPS, and whether he would relinquish key ministries for the sake of that coalition, he replied that he "didn’t know,“ but added that he expected Kostunica to be prime minister in the event of a coalition between the DSS-NS, Radicals and Socialists being formed.
