Vuk Jeremic says there is a chance that the ambassadors recalled to Belgrade for consultations could return to their posts in the fall. The foreign minister explained that Serbia was currently doing everything it could to prevent Kosovo from joining any international organizations, and trying to limit the number of countries recognizing “the illegal declaration of Kosovo’s independence.” Jeremic: Ambassadors could return in fall “As long as we are engaged in preventing the recognition of Kosovo’s illegal independence declaration, I would not advise the government to return its ambassadors,” said Jeremic. He said that in September, at the UN General Assembly, Serbia would propose a resolution to seek the opinion of the International Court of Justice over Kosovo’s unilateral independence. “In the General Assembly every country has a vote. I think that we can win a vote there,” Jeremic said. The foreign minister said that that was the stage where he could envisage a debate over sending Serbian ambassadors back abroad. He said that filing a lawsuit against countries that had recognized Kosovo illegally was a “legitimate act,” but would not have much impact, and would do more harm than good. “Those who support a lawsuit have the goal of stopping Serbia’s European integration,” Jeremic claimed. The minister said that Serbia could not sue any countries in the International Court of Justice if it did not accept this, adding that any eventual lawsuit could lead to more conditions being set for EU membership. “Then, the condition will no longer be the Hague Tribunal, but dropping this suit. It would mean our European integration would be conditioned by Kosovo for the first time. That is a dangerous thing,” Jeremic said. Vuk Jeremic (FoNet archive)
