Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday that ideas launched outside the mandate regulated by UN Resolution 1244 "will not be successful". Lavrov added that the policy that pushed for the creation of the armed forces in the territory of Kosovo "will not be a success either". Asked whether Russia felt that it was left out of the Kosovo process, since the Western partners held a separate meeting today, Lavrov said: "Our partners have the right to discuss any problem at their meetings. Russia does not feel that it has been left out of the process of solving the Kosovo problem." Lavrov also said that discussions on the issue are held at the UN Security Council "all the time", and that Russia, as a permanent member of the Security Council, takes part in those. In London, Lavrov was participating in a meeting of the so-called Middle East quartet. In the same report from the British capital, the Russian news agency quoted Slovenia's Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel as saying that "UN Resolution 1244 enables for the deployment of the EULEX mission in Kosovo". "We wish Serbia to be closer to the EU, which is a friend of all the Balkan nations," Rupel also said.
