MUP quiet as LDP, SRS plan rally at same location

The Radicals (SRS) and the Liberal Democrats (LDP) are planning to hold a rally at the same location in Nis, and at approximately the same time. But local police, MUP, which approves every public gathering in advance, says they have so far undertaken "no measures whatsoever", regarding the parties' announcements. MUP quiet as LDP, SRS plan rally at same location "Both parties have registered their gatherings, and, according to our information, they are currently conducting consultations. If police decide to take any measures, we will duly notify you," spokeswoman Lidija Pavlovic told reporters today. The Radicals and the Liberals have announced that their supporters will gather in the Kralja Milana square on May 5, at 17:00, and 19:00 CET, respectively. "We expect the police to positively resolve our request to hold the final LDP convention, and in so doing prevent possible incidents, and prevent a return to the lawlessness that was characteristic of Serbia in the 1990s, led precisely by the Radicals," a local LDP official, Predrag Jelenkovic, told Beta earlier. The LDP plans to start with campaign activities at noon that day, and to finalize them at 19:00. But the Radicals are preparing to gather at 17:00. Jelenkovic claims that the SRS did not submit a permit from the municipal authority regulating occupation of public spaces, but SRS Nis office chairman Darko Bulatovic told journalists that this document is not a condition to register any rally with the MUP. "We have already publicly announced the time and place for our gathering, and that is May 5, downtown, and we have no intention of changing that," Bulatovic was adamant.

The Radicals and the Liberals have announced that their supporters will gather in the Kralja Milana square on May 5, at 17:00, and 19:00 CET, respectively.

The LDP plans to start with campaign activities at noon that day, and to finalize them at 19:00. But the Radicals are preparing to gather at 17:00.
