A DSS spokesman wants the defense minister to say if he met in secret with the NATO secretary general in Brussels yesterday. “I call on Dragan Sutanovac to say whether or not he met in secret with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Brussels on Thursday,” Andreja Mladenovic told Tanjug. DSS accuses Sutanovac of secret meetings with NATO chief The Democratic Party (DS) has responded by saying that Sutanovac and DS colleague Bojan Pajtic were visiting Brussels in a party capacity, and that the DSS's accusations were nothing more than smear tactics. The DSS spokesman said that the news that “the (League of Vojvodina Social Democrats leader Nenad) Canak-DS-G17 Plus coalition would sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU on April 28 coincides with the secret meeting Sutanovac had with Scheffer.” He said that the public had to know what the two officials had discussed at the meeting, if there had been any such meeting, whether Sutanovac had signed anything, and whether he had made any commitments on Serbia's behalf. Mladenovic pointed out that the government had not given Sutanovac the green light to meet with foreign officials in Brussels, nor had the Serbian Embassy been aware of the minister's secret meetings with the NATO secretary general. “Whatever was it that Sutanovac did in Brussels, that cannot be the official position of the Defense Ministry, or of the government for that matter, since the government did not approve Sutavac's visit to Brussels,“ the DSS spokesman insisted.
