Aleksandar Vucic says that Belgrade city officials are taking too long to solve important problems. The Serb Radical Party’s (SRS) candidate for Belgrade mayor said that the incomplete reconstruction of the Southern Boulevard was an example of the local authorities’ inability to deal with problems in a timely fashion. SRS mayor candidate promises more efficiency Vucic said that work had begun on that street on October 1, 2007 and that the street had been due to reopen for traffic on December 31. “The basic reasons for the delays in completion of the job are the lack of concern by city officials, poor planning and miscalculation, but also corruption,” the SRS official claimed. He also wanted to know why citizens were never informed of the exact costs of work in the city, and how much added work and contractual annexes cost. “The announcement that work will be completed on April 15 is just a pre-election stunt,” Vucic said, adding that the time frame for construction had doubled, causing traffic jams and difficulties for people living in that area. He said that because of the extended work, people had been having problems receiving water, electrical energy, and telephone services. Vucic said that “Belgrade most move forward, and its citizens have a chance on May 11 to elect a better team that will look after them, and will not be mixed up in corruption scandals.” Aleksandar Vucic (FoNet)
