PM Vojislav Kostunica wants Brussels to confirm the Hague’s legitimacy following Ramush Haradinaj’s acquittal on Thursday. Kostunica said that the EU, since “it doesn’t have anything particular to say after Haradinaj was rewarded for the crimes he committed,” must open a serious discussion on the matter. Kostunica questions Hague's legitimacy “If the EU ignores this grave miscarriage of justice by the court, and if the EU ignores the fact that the Hague has turned justice itself into a laughing stock, Serbia must, in a responsible manner, begin to question the Tribunal’s work,” said the prime minister, adding that Serbian citizens were rightly disillusioned with the Hague. He said that the EU considered the Hague to be the chief yardstick for measuring cooperation between the Union and Belgrade, particularly as far as further talks on the country’s European integration were concerned. For this reason, said Kostunica, following Haradinaj’s acquittal, the EU now had to reassess whether the Hague could be considered a legitimate court. “How can this court be in any way relevant for determining Serbian-EU relations. These are matters of the utmost importance that require concrete and real answers,” the prime minister insisted. Vojislav Kostunica (FoNet, archive)
