UNMIK’s regional administrator Gerard Galluci will leave Kosovo at the end of the month, says a Pristina daily. According to Koha Ditore’s sources, Galluci will be suspended from his duties in late April. "Galluci to quit at end of month" The daily’s sources claim that relations between Galluci and UNMIK Deputy Chief Larry Rossin are so strained that UNMIK Chief Joachim Ruecker and other senior UN officials, including Deputy Secretary General for Peacekeeping operations Jean-Marie Guehenno, have now got involved. The paper says cites the reasons for the suspension as failure to respect the decisions of his superiors, and the fact that Galluci, in attempting to shift the responsibility for the events of March 17 in Kosovska Mitrovica, expressed his views to Kosovo Serb leaders by letter, and that letters he sent to UN Headquarters were published in the media. The UNMIK regional administrator criticized the UNMIK police/KFOR operation against the Serbs in the town. He later tendered his resignation, but this was turned down at UN Headquarters in New York. Representatives of civil groups in southern Kosovska Mitrovica have been holding demonstrations against Galluci in recent days, while the media has reported that in the event of his reinstatement, Ruecker and Rossin will quit their posts.
