State Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanovic today spoke about the 2000 murder of Defense Minister Pavle Bulatovic. Radovanovic said investigators have "quality evidence" that can lead to those responsible for Bulatovic's death. "State blocked defense chief's murder probe" The former defense chief was gunned down in a Belgrade restaurant on Feb. 7, 2000. "The case needs to be worked on, because quality evidence must translate to evidence admissible in court," Radovanovic told the daily Blic. He added there was a possibility that foreign forensic laboratories will be engaged to work on the case. Radovanovic added his office is also working on other unsolved murderes of state official in Serbia, voicing his opinion that the executors were mostly professionals who "either died in the war or were themselves killed outside of Serbia". "A state structure" most likely stood behind the murders of officials, and was at the time blocking attempts by police to properly carry out investigation of the scenes, he said. Another case the prosecution is looking into, is that of Judge Nebojsa Simeunovic, who was reported missing on Nov. 7, 2000. His corpse was fished out of the Danube a week later. The circumstances of his death remain unclear. Due to the changes to the body, forensics working on the case could not confirm whether his death was violent, but the prosecution suspects that Simeunovic was murdered, Radovanovic specified. Another case is that of a high state security, BIA, official, Momir Gavrilovic, shot dead in 2001. The murders of JUL party official Zoran Todorovic, former police inspector Miroslav Bizic, journalist Slavko Curuvija are also investigated, and, according to Radovanovic, "can be linked to the political circumstances of the period when the killings happened". The three murders took place in 1997, 1996, and 1999, respectively. Slobodan Radovanovic (FoNet)
