Slobodan Samardzic’s proposal is unacceptable for Kosovo officials, the international community and Serbs south of the Ibar. President of the Serb National Council Executive Committee in Kosovo Rada Trajkovic said that the question of Serbs and the problem of Serbia’s legitimate interests in Kosovo had to be dealt with first. Samardzic proposal “unacceptable” She said that Samardzic’s proposal had not been discussed among Kosovo Serb representatives. “The partition of Kosovo is to me a project which is completely unacceptable. I really do not think that it offers a solution that can secure everything that ties Serbian citizens to this region,” Trajkovic explained. The Kosovo institutions have stated that any resolution not taking Martti Ahtisaari’s plan into consideration lacks legitimacy and is unacceptable. “The Kosovo Serbs have not been persecuted by the Kosovo Albanians at any stage, nor will they ever be. The best plan and best offer for them, which has been accepted by Brussels, New York and Washington, is related to the all-encompassing Ahtisaari plan, which is a major part of the Kosovo Constitution,” said Kosovo Parliamentary Speaker Jakup Krasniqi. British ambassador to Pristina David Blunt said that he had heard about the idea for a division of authorities through the Belgrade media. “In my opinion, a partition would be bad for the Serb community north of the Ibar, and for the majority of Serbs that live south of the Ibar. It would be bad for Kosovo as well, and the stability of the region. I am strongly against that, and I do not see what there is to support here,” Blunt said. He reiterated that it should be taken into consideration that Kosovo was an independent country that over 30 countries had already recognized, including five from the region.
