Serbia is a key ally of the U.S., and a guarantee of stability in the Balkans, says the U.S. ambassador to Belgrade. “It’s very important that we keep working with Serbia and go down the path of democratic reform, economic prosperity and military relations that we’ve had with Serbia for a long time,” Cameron Munter told FoNet. U.S. ambassador: Serbia is key ally Speaking about the White House document approving a delivery of arms to Pristina, Munter repeated that it “represents part of a process through which the U.S. allows the Republic of Kosovo to enjoy the same benefits that Serbia has at its disposal.” This is not a consignment of weapons, this is not a sign of Kosovo’s intention to arm itself in order to complicate the situation, the ambassador stressed. Speaking about the forthcoming Serbian general elections, he said that the U.S. was very eager for them to be free and fair, and for the electorate to express its will. “We’re interested that they’re carried out freely and fairly, and the elections to be won by people dedicated to prosperity and people’s future in Serbia,” explained Munter. “We’re very interested to see who’ll win these elections,” the ambassador reiterated.
