UNMIK, KPS return to northern Kosovska Mitrovica

The UN and the Kosovo Police Service returned to northern Kosovska Mitrovica today. Commander of the police station in that part of the town Milija Milosevic said that KFOR soldiers and military vehicles would slowly begin to pull out of their positions in front of the police station and the buildings housing the District and Municipal courts in northern Kosovska Mitrovica. UNMIK, KPS return to northern Kosovska Mitrovica KFOR troops will be relieved by the UN mission and the Kosovo Police Service. KFOR took over control of northern Kosovska Mitrovica two days ago when UNMIK and KPS officers pulled out of the area following conflicts between Serbs and international security forces in which one Ukrainian UNMIK officer lost his life and more than 100 civilians, police officers and soldiers were injured. KFOR’s withdrawal and the return of police and UNMIK officials is being carried out at the same time as UNMIK launches an inquiry into what and who triggered the conflicts in northern Kosovska Mitrovica on March 17.
