Rupel: EU aware of problems, Kosovo stable

Although the EU is aware of the "northern Kosovo problem", the situation there is stable, Dimitrij Rupel says. The Slovenian foreign minister was in Brussels Monday when he commented that the situation in Kosovo is "better than some feared it would be". Rupel: EU aware of problems, Kosovo stable Rupel also said that he is "concerned over the possibility that a change of political regime in Serbia would complicate the situation in northern Kosovo". "Northern Kosovo is the problem and we are aware that the change of political regime in Serbia may complicate the situation," he pointed out. He also said the EU mission to the province, EULEX, deemed illegal by Belgrade and Moscow as it came with no UN approval or invitation, will continue to deploy. The mission earlier withdrew from the northern, Serb inhabited parts of Kosovo. Rupel described its deployment so far as "somewhat complicated". "KFOR and UNMIK are in Kosovo and an agreement of all sides involved is necessary", he was quoted, without further elaboration. As for the recognitions of Kosovo Albanians' declaration of independence, both of which are also considered illegal by Serbia, Rupel said that "most EU states have recognized Kosovo, while others will wait and see what happens".
