Political analysts agree that the differences within the government can best be resolved in fresh elections. Dusan Pavlovic says that the EU and Kosovo-based conflict cannot be overcome by the parties in any other way. Analysts: Elections best solution Milan Nikolic on the other hand, says the main reason why Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica has decided to topple the government at this point is because his Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) "intends to cash in on the votes based on its demostrated patriotism in the fight for Kosovo". CeSID Program Director Marko Blagojevic believes that the early elections will "most likely turn into a referendum". Parties will create their campaigns along these lines, Blagojevic says, just as they did in the January presidential vote, which according to him can serve as an indicator of the expected turnout in May. Analyst Vladimir Goati was somewhat surprised by Kostunica's decision, and explained that he expected the Democrats (DS) and the Radicals (SRS), "to gain some more votes", but that the current balance of power in the parliament will not change significantly. NIN weekly journalist Dragan Bujosevic, however, was not surprised by the prime minister's move, and is also one of those that believe elections are the best way out of the crisis.
