Iceland recognizes Kosovo

The government of Iceland has officially recognized Kosovo’s unilateral independence. According to the country’s Foreign Ministry, Reykjavik has informed the Serbian government and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci of yesterday’s resolution to recognize the province’s unilateral independence. Iceland recognizes Kosovo “We expect Kosovo to meet its obligations stemming from the independence declaration, and that human and minority rights will be fully respected,” Foreign Minister Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir said. She was in Brussels participating at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers and an international conference of female leaders. Iceland is a member of NATO, but not the European Union.
