In an open letter 2 KPS commissioners have called on Kosovo’s citizens to support and encourage the return of Serbs to the KPS. "During our talks with them, we established that they didn’t want the suspensions to occur, but they explained that they didn’t have any other option because of the pressure put on them and their families. That situation cannot continue," stated Kosovo Police Service (KPS) Commissioner Larry Wilson and Deputy Commissioner Sheremet Ahmeti. KPS calls on Serbs to return The call to Serb police officers was repeated yesterday by UNMIK Chief Joachim Ruecker during his visit to Kosovska Mitrovica. According to him, UNMIK’s goal is a multi-ethnic Kosovo, where Serbs will be integrated into all institutions. "It is indeed sad that, for now, some Serb police officers have left the KPS, but I sincerely hope that they will return to work. You know, they have only been suspended, no one has been fired and that is good, because it means that the doors remain wide open for their return to a multi-ethnic and democratic future", said Ruecker. Speaking to Serb students in Kosovska Mitrovica, the UNMIK chief stated that his mission would not rescind the unilateral declaration of independence act taken by the Kosovo parliament on February 17. He said that UN-resolution 1244 remained in force and that he saw a future in the EU, where there was room for everyone. Yesterday was Ruecker’s first visit to northern Kosovo since Pristina unilaterally declared independence. Joachim Ruecker (FoNet, archive)
