The government has expressed a negative opinion regarding the SRS resolution on Kosovo. The resolution formulated by the Serb Radical Party (SRS) sets out Serbia’s relations with international organizations, particularly the EU, in light of Pristina’s recent unilateral declaration of independence. Government gives SRS resolution thumbs down 15 ministers from the ranks of the Democratic Party (DS) and G17 Plus expressed a negative opinion vis-à-vis the proposal, to just seven from the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and New Serbia (NS), who supported the proposal, Beta understands from the government. The Foreign Ministry gave the reasoning for the negative position on the proposal, which will duly become the government’s official explanation. The resolution was backed in parliament by the DSS and NS from within the government, and the opposition Socialist Party of Serbia. However, no debate was opened in parliament yesterday after Speaker Oliver Dulic adjourned the session until the government had had time to review the proposal. The resolution calls on the EU “to clearly and unambiguously confirm Serbia’s territorial integrity” as a condition for resuming talks on European integration. “Serbia will discuss EU membership if the Union acquiesces to this very minor demand of the state of Serbia,” the resolution states, condemning “the EU’s illegal decision” to send the EULEX mission to Kosovo and stating that the EU has contravened the principles of international law. The document demands that the EU rescind its decision to send the mission, and that EU member-states that have recognized the unilateral independence declaration withdraw those recognitions.
