The EU envoy for Kosovo says Belgrade is trying to cut ties between the Albanian majority and Serb minority in Kosovo. “An attempt is being made to cut off ties between the Serb community and the central authorities,” Peter Feith said yesterday in Pristina. "Belgrade undermining situation in Kosovo" Asked whether Serbia was attempting to divide the province, Feith said he though it was “very close to that.” The EU envoy also represents the International Steering Group, created on Thursday in Vienna, against which Serbia has already protested in a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The Dutch diplomat said that the group, made up of 15 countries, had given “a very strong message that it would not tolerate partition, as partition of the country was not envisaged and would not be accepted.” Feith said that UN Envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s plan that the West supported, but which Russia blocked in the UN Security Council, envisaged “privileged ties” between the Kosovo Serbs and Serbia.
