Polish President Lech Kaczynski is still asking Prime Minister Donald Tusk "not to rush into recognizing Kosovo independence". This came today despite yesterday's visit by EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana to Warsaw and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski's subsequent announcement that his country will next week recognize Kosovo Albanians' unilateral secession, rejected by Serbia, but also Russia, as illegal. Poland hesitant about recognition "During a meeting with the prime minister last night the president maintained his reservations about a quick recognition of Kosovo," a state secretary with the premier's office told the local media. "This thing [recognition of Kosovo] the president likely does not really want, but at the same time he realizes that it would not be good to send such a determined signal to the EU that Poland does not want to recognize Kosovo," the same source expalined. Poland is afraid that the president is proposing "some kind of unjustified game to buy time", which would put Poland in the group of those six EU countries that reject to recognize Kosovo's unilaterally declared secession, which, according to the office of the prime minister, "would only make problems within the Union". Poland was to make the recognition on Tuesday, but the decision was postponed after Kaczynski insisted. The opposition in the Polish parliament believes that an independent Kosovo complicates the security situation and inspires separatism in countries that are important and close to Poland, such as Georgia, "at the same time playing into the hands of Russia".
