The dailies today dedicate the most front-page space to yesterday's riots in northern Kosovo. ALO—"North burns, enclaves in fear", is about yesterday's unrest in northern, Serb-majority part of Kosovo, but also the situation that those isolated and endangered small Serb enclaves scattered across the rest of the province find themselves in. Press: Trouble in northern Kosovo BLIC—"No contact with countries that recognize Kosovo", a headline quotes Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and his ministers. Veteran actress Mirjana Karanovic recently threw out reporters from the premier of her new play, and now tells the daily why: "I defended my dignity". BORBA—"Against all laws", is about the Kosovo status crisis in the wake of ethnic Albanians' unilateral declaration. As for the new law on public procurement, one suggestion is to utilize the internet: "Announcements to be placed on the portal". VECERNJE NOVOSTI—"Boundary burns too", more on Kosovo Serbs' protests. "Castro leaving", the news from Cuba, long awaited in some quarters, also made it to the front page. "Eurosong will take place after all", an official organizing the contest tells the paper. GLAS JAVNOSTI—The highly emotionally charged atmosphere that is not letting up in Serbia is seen in this newspapers' decision to repeatedly use a derogatory term in describing Kosovo Albanians on its front pages: "KFOR go, Siptari stop". The article is about the Jarinje and Brnjak outposts trouble yesterday. "No one has the right to recognize Kosovo", both houses of the Russian parliament have said in a joint statement, is another headline. What is described as the Kosovo virus of separatism is spreading: "Flemish, Tatars raise head…". "Serbia recalls ambassadors", quotes Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, but adds that diplomatic ties with those countries that recognize Kosovo will not be severed. "Castro resigns", is also on the front page. DANAS—"UNMIK customs outposts mined and set on fire", the daily reports from northern Kosovo. "MUP calls on clubs and supporters to cooperate", is about an appeal which the Serbian police, faced with daily rioting, made yesterday. DSS official Milos Aligrudic is quoted under, "New [parliament] session on Kosovo likely by end of week". KURIR—"On the brink", is how the paper describes the turmoil in Kosovo yesterday. POLITIKA—"Serbs set control posts of Jarinje and Brnjak on fire", the front page says. "Fidel just comrade from now on", another article reports on the Castro resignation. "Special treatment for some ambassadors in Belgrade", the newspaper says, but doesn't mean it in a good way – it suggests that ambassadors from the countries that recognize Kosovo who choose to remain in Serbia will no longer have access to the top officials. PRESS—The tabloid says Kosovo Serbs in the north have "taken their own destiny in their own hands", set two boundary crossings on fire, and sums the trouble up in one word on the front page: "Uprising". "Increasing boycott of Slovenian goods in Serbia", says the headline to another article.
