Supreme Court annuls Kosovo independence

The Supreme Court of Serbia Monday ruled Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence null and void.

The Supreme Court of Serbia Monday ruled Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence null and void. "The attempt at the unilateral declaration of the independence of Kosovo and Metohija is absolutely a null and void illegal act which grossly violates all rules of the international law," the judges said. Supreme Court annuls Kosovo independence The Supreme Court said that Sunday's unilateral declaration, from the aspect of the Constitution of Serbia, is an illegal act with the effect that it is absolutely null and void. The Constitution regulates the position of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, as an integral part of Serbia whose territory is united and indivisible, the Supreme Court said in a statement. The Supreme Court said that this illegal act is contrary to the UN Charter, the final Helsinki Act, the 1990 European Charter for a New Europe, the conclusions of the Badinter Commission and UN Security Council Resolution 1244. The Supreme Court recalled that Serbia is a sovereign state, one of the founders of the United Nations which indirectly applies generally-accepted rules and norms of the international law and where confirmed international agreements are an integral part of the country's legal order.

The Supreme Court said that Sunday's unilateral declaration, from the aspect of the Constitution of Serbia, is an illegal act with the effect that it is absolutely null and void.
