The papers today reflect the mood of Serbia, when they announce Kosovo's independence "null and void" in their own way. BLIC—"Serbs will not move", is the headline to an article about today's unilateral proclamation of independence by the Kosovo Albanians. Press: Rejection of Kosovo declaration "Mother helplessly watched son die", is about the tragic death of Dalibor Havlek after he was examined in a Belgrade clinic. VECERNJE NOVOSTI—"Vows last, deed remains", is the daily's Kosovo report, suggesting Serbia's continued claim over its southern province. The article adds that ethnic Albanians will declare independence, with U.S. and large EU countries accepting it. GAZETA—"We won't give it away!" a headline across the front page sums up the daily's Kosovo sentiments. GLAS JAVNOSTI—"Europe snatches and occupies on behalf of Siptari", says a headline, using the derogatory term for Albanians. "Samardzic: Shameful EU decision", quotes yesterday's statement by Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic. More on Kosovo under, "Fake state", and in a strangely entitled article which allegedly quotes Bishop Artemije of Kosovo: "Russia, give us arms". KURIR—The tabloid leaves no doubt as to how it sees the situation in the province: "Occupation!" A Serbian idiom that literally translates as, "Indebted and ugly", is about Mirko Kovats, A-TEC owner, and the latest complications over his consortium's acquisition of RTB Bor copper complex. POLITIKA—"Defense and first days", the newspaper says about the Kosovo crisis on its front page, in a pun on a Serbian literature classic, Borislav Pekic's novel "The defense and the last days". "Half the government in Kosovo and Metohija", reports about the announced trip the ministers will take today in a show of support for the province's Serbs. "Kostunica: Annulment of fake state", the prime minister is also quoted on the front page. PRESS—"Defense of Kosmet"! the tabloid leads with a Kosovo article. "Kosovo forever ours!", quotes Dragan Djilas, DS, who is a cabinet minister. "Almost busted over name", is about Partizan FC's Mladen Lazarevic who was mistakenly detained in Dubai, because his name is the same as that of a "known robber and thief".
