Momcilo Veljkovic’s civil suit against Ivan Markovic has resumed in Pozarevac. Local Otpor member Veljkovic has sued former Yugoslav Associated Left (JUL) spokesman Markovic for slander over comments the latter made eight years ago following a physical confrontation between Marko Milosevic and his henchmen and a group of Otpor activists. Otpor activist sues former JUL spokesman Former RTS director Dragoljub Milanovic, who is serving a prison sentence in Zabel Correctional Facility near Pozarevac, will not appear as a witness in the case, after the defense withdrew this proposal three days ago. Neither Markovic, nor JUL spokesman Dragana Kuzmanovic who was to give evidence, appeared at yesterday’s hearing. The Pozarevac District Court had overturned an earlier ruling in Markovic’s favor absolving him of slander in 2000, when, among other things he had labeled the plaintiff “a foreign mercenary, a mental case, and accused him of the attempted murder of young JUL member Milan Lazic." Veljkovicev is seeking damages of RSD 10mn (EUR 125,000) The case continues on February 28.
