The Belgrade District Public Prosecution has called for an inquiry to be conducted against former Red Star FC officials. Dragan Dzajic, Vladimir Cvetkovic and Milos Marinkovic, who were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of embezzling money generated from player transfer fees, will appear before the District Court in Belgrade. Red Star officials face investigation The three men are suspected of embezzling EUR 5mn from the sale of Goran Drulic to Real Zaragoza in 2001. Meanwhile, the prosecution has submitted a motion for an investigation to be carried out based on suspicions that the three men were guilty of abuse of power. Prosecution spokesman Tomo Zoric told B92 that an application had made for the three suspects to be remanded in custody. “There are firm grounds on which to suggest that the Red Star officials abused their positions of authority to embezzle around EUR 5.1mn, following the sale of Goran Drulic to Real Zaragoza in Spain. In its motion for an investigation, the public prosecution has also asked for the suspects to be remanded in custody,” said Zoric. Dzajic, Cvetkovic, and Marinkovic have denied any wrongdoing over the disputed transfer. According to the police, the three men opened an account in the footballer’s name at the Commercial Bank without his knowledge, from which they withdrew EUR 5mn, a transaction personally approved by then Commercial Bank President Ljubomir Mihajlovic. The three men are suspected of embezzling EUR 5mn from the sale of Goran Drulić to Real Zaragoza in 2001.

Meanwhile, the prosecution has submitted a motion for an investigation to be carried out based on suspicions that the three men were guilty of abuse of power.

Prosecution spokesman Tomo Zorić told B92 that an application had made for the three suspects to be remanded in custody.

“There are firm grounds on which to suggest that the Red Star officials abused their positions of authority to embezzle around EUR 5.1mn, following the sale of Goran Drulić to Real Zaragoza in Spain. In its motion for an investigation, the public prosecution has also asked for the suspects to be remanded in custody,” said Zorić.

Džajić, Cvetković, and Marinković have denied any wrongdoing over the disputed transfer.
