The first round of voting in the presidential ballot Sunday was "mostly in keeping with democratic standards" OSCE says. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) issued the report of its limited election observation mission Monday. OSCE: First round in line with standards "Serbia once again demonstrated the ability to organize democratic elections," said Nikolai Vulchanov of Bulgaria, chief of the OSCE observation mission. "It is important that the authorized organs should continue making improvements where they are necessary," Vulchanov said, pointing to the fact that Serbia still has no unique electoral register, even though that is required under the law, as an example. The turnout of around 60 percent demonstrates a high degree of interest of the Serbian citizens in this democratic process, the mission statement also said. Domestic observers and the Electoral Commission also reported no major irregularities or incidents at the polling station yesterday.
