Istvan Pastor says he will support Boris Tadic provided he accepts the Hungarian coalition’s manifesto. At a press conference in Subotica, the Hungarian coalition’s presidential candidate said that, provided the Democratic Party (DS) candidate accepted the platform his coalition stood for in the first round, they and he himself would back the incumbent president “with the same gusto.” Hungarian candidate to condition support for Tadic “From tonight, I’m no longer a presidential candidate, but a Vojvodina politician, the president of a major coalition and an important party,” said Pastor. He said that he had won over 100,000 votes at the elections and deemed it a great success, given that his target had been 80,000. Pastor said that, at the parliamentary elections last January, all the Hungarian parties combined had received a total of only 65,000 votes, which made his performance yesterday all the more impressive. “We’ve received two-thirds of the votes of the entire eligible Hungarian community, and have made big progress in municipalities like Senta, Ada and Kanjiza,” said the Hungarian coalition’s presidential candidate. He said that, in so doing, the coalition had become the third force in Vojvodina politics. The Hungarian coalition is made up of Pastor’s own Union of Vojvodina Hungarians, the Democratic Party of Vojvodina Hungarians, and the Democratic Community of Vojvodina Hungarians.
