Erhan Smailovic, one of a group of 15 Wahhabis charged with terrorism, has rejected the indictment against him. Smajlovic told the Special Organized Crime court in Belgrade on Friday that he had "nothing to do with the indictment" and that he was not guilty on any of the counts. Terror trial: Another Wahhabi rejects charges The charges against the Sandzak group, most of whose members were arrested in March and April last year, include plotting terror attacks, illegal possession of weapons, and attempted murder of a policeman. "What would I do with religious or political power? I am interested in life and the salvation of my soul," Smajlovic, who used quotes from the Koran as he made his plea, told a panel of judges. He also said that he was never a member of any organization or political party, and that he never possessed any weapons. Smajlovic denied that the radical Islamic group had planned to kill Novi Pazar mufti Muamer Zukorlic. According to his statement, he was never on Mt. Ninaja, some 30 kilometers from Novi Pazar, where the first group was arrested in March 2007. The location is described by the prosecution as a Wahhabi training camp, where a large cache of arms, explosives, medical supplies and propaganda material was also confiscated. Smajlovic, who was arrested later, said he learned about the arrest of the first accused, Senad Ramovic, in April 2006, when Ismail Prentic, another member of the group, died in exchange of fire with MUP's special police. But Smajlovic said that he did not hide or attempt to run from the police after this. He said he made the acquaintance of the other accused Wahhabis in Novi Pazar's Arab mosque, where they met to pray and discuss Islam. The trial continues next week.
